Is your jewelry safe for people with allergies?
Our jewelry findings are made form stainless steel, brass or silver.
Stainless steel is considered as one of the least allergenic metals, although it does contain nickel. The secret is that nickel in stainless steel is chemically bound to the other metal that is why it is released onto the skin from jewelry and other products in very, very small amounts. Our stainless steel findings meet the EU Nickel Directive, which stands that in case of products intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with skin, like jewelry, the amount of nickel that may be released is limited to 0.5 micrograms per cm per week. So you can consider our inner tube jewelry, electric cable jewelry and textile jewelry with stainless steel findings as nickel safe.
When it comes to our bike chain jewelry we can’t guarantee that all bike chain links are nickel safe. Some bike chains are made from stainless steel but it is not a common material.
Roughly 6-12% of the population is allergic to nickel. If this includes you it is better to avoid bicycle chain jewelry.
Brass is one of the most popularly used metals for jewelry. It is an alloy made of copper and zinc which are not considered as allergenic metals. The proportions of the copper and zinc can vary do produce different types of brass. Sometimes, other metals such as lead and nickel can be added to brass as well however modern-day brass is not produced with lead, but it might contain small amounts of nickel. If you have a sensitive skin it’s better to choose stainless steel or silver findings for your jewelry. Almost all our designs can be made using stainless steel and some of them silver findings. If you don’t find in our shop the item of your choice with stainless steel or silver findings please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to check if we can make it.
